Headaches and migraines are among the most common health problems that can make the day really unpleasant. In many cases, however, you can get rid of them by using a special Ayurvedic massage, which we newly offer in our studio, where you can entrust to the care of a Ceylon Ayurvedic masseur.
Headache or migraine?
This article is only an introduction to the issues. Therefore, in the introduction we briefly describe the difference between headache and migraine. If this is clear to you, feel free to jump to the next paragraphs. 😊
Most types of headache start in the nerves and blood vessels or in the muscles of the head and neck. The muscles or blood vessels sometimes enlarge, stretch or undergo other changes that stimulate or exert pressure on the surrounding nerves. These nerves send pain messages to the brain and this causes headaches. The pain can range from mild to severe and usually occurs on both sides of the head. However, they can occur only on one side of the head, or in the eyes or under the ears.
Migraine, on the other hand, is a seizure headache. It is usually accompanied by nausea, vomiting and psychological symptoms. In the classical form it affects half of the head, but there are various forms of migraines with transient polio, dizziness, visual disturbances, associated with menstruation, etc. The cause of migraine is not clearly explained according to scientific literature, i.e. The Big Medical Thesaurus, online, it is considered i.e. with changes in metabolism of some neurotransmitters.
You can monitor the symptoms of migraine up to two days before the headache itself. Symptoms during this phase may include:
- appetite change
- depression
- fatigue
- frequent yawning
- neck stiffness
Only a doctor can give you a diagnosis of pain. But if you do not want to rely solely on painkillers, try our Ayurvedic massage, which can relax blocked muscles or nerves, help improve blood flow and can help you greatly.
How can Ayurvedic massage help with headache or migraine?
Diagnosing your dosha type
For the treatment of the aforementioned health problems, the Ayurvedic therapist first determines the so-called body type (dosha), which in Ayurveda are the following types:
- vata
- pitta
- kapha
These three doshas are represented in each body and ideally should be in balance. However, mostly one type predominates, and this causes specific types of difficulties. One of the goals of Ayurvedic massage is to bring doshi to balance.
Oil massage
In the case of headaches and migraines, have a massage with hot oil in our studio every two weeks. An appropriate selection of traditional Ayurvedic dosha balancing massage oils, such as Mahanarayana Oil, helps along with the massage technique chosen by the therapist based on diagnostics, stimulate blood circulation, relax the nervous system, or “cool” the “overheated” head.
Shirodhara special massage
The name comes from the Sanskrit words shiro (head) and dhara (flow). Shirodhara is a very effective form of Ayurvedic therapy. It includes slow rubbing of oil into the forehead skin. It is used to treat various conditions including eye diseases, rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, neurological disorders, memory loss, insomnia, hearing damage, tinnitus, dizziness and various types of skin diseases.
Tip for quick help against headaches or migraines in the comfort of your home
Make a paste of sandalwood powder and rose essential oil and gently massage into the temple area for 15 minutes and leave for another 15 minutes.
